DeHavilland DH-89 “Dragon Rapide” Allied Airways, Inc. Summer 1937
The DH-89 first flew in 1934, and remained in production for ten years, a total of 728 being built. In its day, it was one of the most widely used air transports in the world and many are still flying in the 21st century. One of the many small airlines that flew the Rapide was Allied Airways (originally Aberdeen Airways), headquartered in Aberdeen, Scotland, and flying routes to the Orkneys, the Shetland Islands, Norway, and England during the 1930s.
